FEATURES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL RECOVERY OF REINTEGRATED PERSONS AFTER CAPTIVITY: THEORETICAL ANALYSIS AND PRACTICAL APPROACHES

Captivity is one of the most traumatic events, which has a profound impact on the individual and requires long- term psychological recovery. The aim of the study: To identify the characteristics of coping behavior and the level of subjective stress in military personnel who have been in captivity, taking into account age differences and the presence of traumatic factors of the captivity experience, as well as to analyze their impact on the adaptive potential of the individual.Materials and methods: An empirical study was conducted among 50 military personnel who had been held captive and underwent medical and psychological rehabilitation at a military medical facility. The results were processed using Excel 2021 software. Result. The predominance of problem-oriented coping strategies among prisoners of war (M = 54.16; SD = 11.39) indicates a preserved ability to constructively overcome difficulties, mobilize internal resources, and focus on actively resolving stressful situations despite the traumatic experience of captivity. Age analysis did not reveal statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) on the CISS and PSS scales, but characteristic trends were identified: younger participants show higher cognitive flexibility and activity in searching for solutions, while older participants show greater emotional intensity of reactions and a tendency toward unique strategies. Elevated subjective stress scores (M = 28.64 ± 7.60) indicate a moderately high level of tension, which is consistent with the results of previous studies of individuals who have experienced isolation or traumatic events, where high levels of perceived stress are maintained even after the crisis situation has ended. Conclusions. The results obtained emphasize the need for targeted psychological rehabilitation aimed at developing constructive coping strategies, increasing cognitive flexibility, reducing emotional exhaustion, and restoring the adaptive potential of military personnel after captivity.
