SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS INCLINED TO MINOR CORRUPTION

The article contains the results of original empirical research of the socio-psychological characteristics of law enforcement officers inclined to minor corruption. The relevance of the research has been proved by the fact that the identification of the socio-psychological characteristics of corrupt officials in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine makes real to build their psychological profile for the needs of professional psychological selection and psychoprophylactic work. The research was based on the psychodiagnostics results of 87 servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine which was carried out with use of polygraph during the professional and psychological selection for higher positions and positions which includes material responsibility. The focus group of the study consisted of military personnel who committed corrupt acts in the course of their official duties. The control group was formed from servicemen who haven’t been involved in corrupt practices during their performance of official duties. The servicemen have been surveyed to identify the main characteristics of corrupt activities such as: initiation of corrupt actions; party in a corrupt interaction; purpose (reason) of a corruption activity; form of a corruption activity; the consistency of corrupt actions; amount of corrupt abuse, extortion, bribes (the amount of financial damage caused, the strength of physical or psychological violence); in what form he received or gave a bribe, improper remuneration, gratitude. Features of motivation, life priorities, personality and character traits, dispositions of the studied law enforcement officers have been characterized. It has been determined that the development of a detailed general profile of a law enforcement officer inclined to minor corruption and outlining criteria for identification of such kind of inclination to corruption act is impossible. However, the identified social and psychological characteristics of law enforcement officers inclined to minor corruption could be considered as characteristic features of such a profile.
