The article analyzes the peculiarities of the life of an internally displaced person, which is related to specific aspects that include the personal experience of resettlement, difficulties in adaptation, mental trauma, the presence of a crisis situation, a sense of social injustice, a sense of loneliness, disorders in emotional, cognitive, behavioral , motivational and communicative spheres of personality. An analysis was carried out of the psychological features of the social situation of internally displaced persons, which determines the level of experiences of psychological trauma and difficulties in social and psychological adaptation. Psychological trauma is considered as a destructive emotional state experienced by a person as a result of a breach of his protective psychophysiological barrier. In general, trauma has a negative effect on a person, disrupts his relationships with others, leads to difficulties in his personal life, antisocial and deviant behavior. Inadequate experience of trauma leads to deep violations in the personal sphere of a person: it destructuralizes the individual’s attitude to the world, relations with others, leads to a loss of trust in others and in one's own life; leads to cognitive, emotional, behavioral and personality disorders; contributes to psychosomatic diseases, which determined the relevance of the study. The assumption is substantiated that in order to better understand the specifics of organizing psychological support for internally displaced persons, it is necessary to analyze their psychological characteristics and find out the degree of satisfaction of primary needs. The results of an empirical study of socio-psychological adaptation by the method of assessing indicators of intrusion, avoidance, physiological excitability and levels of influence of the severity of a traumatic event in various spheres of satisfaction are presented.
