Abstract

The article examines the relationship between leadership qualities and an individual's stress resistance in early adolescence. Based on a theoretical analysis of scientific approaches, it is concluded that the concept of leadership lacks an unambiguous definition. In general, leadership is characterized as a complex socio-psychological phenomenon, considered as a process of managing a social group, determined by social relations. A leader is nominated to ensure the effective organization of joint activities. The following basic qualities of a leader are distinguished: self-confidence, emotional stability, activity, energy, competence, and the ability to influence others. Having analyzed the main scientific provisions, we found that stress resistance is considered an integrative, dynamic personality property, enabling the maintenance of activity effectiveness under significant intellectual, emotional, and volitional loads. Stress resistance is an individual’s ability to withstand the effects of stressors and adapt to difficult situations. An empirical study of the relationship between leadership qualities and an individual’s stress resistance in early adolescence was conducted. The following methods were selected for diagnostics: a methodology for diagnosing leadership types (M. Belbin); a methodology for diagnosing stress resistance (Maksymenko S. D., Karamushka L. M., Zaychykova T. V.); a methodology for diagnosing psychological stress “PSM-25 Psychological Stress Scale” (L. Lemure, R. Tessier, L. Fillion). Using the above methods, it was established that the sample is dominated by leadership types such as “contact person”, “group person”, and “idea person”. The "perfectionist" leadership type is least manifested. It was determined that the majority of the study subjects have a high level of stress resistance and a low level of psychological stress. Using statistical data analysis (Pearson’s correlation coefficient), a relationship was established between leadership types and stress resistance, as measured by psychological stress levels. Students with pronounced leadership types, such as practical organizer, natural leader, action person, idea person, contact person, judge, and group person, exhibit high stress resistance and low psychological and perceived stress. Students with a pronounced leadership type as a perfectionist have a lower level of stress resistance and a high level of psychological and perceived stress.
